Sunday School Outreach Program
G.R.O.W. is an acronym that stands for: God Rewards Our Work. It is a model that was developed by Pastor Jerry Tidwell, that allows each and every member of the church to be involved in Outreach in some way. Although the primary activity is going to peoples homes and visiting with them, there is letter writing and phone calling that can be done. If you are not comfortable with those activities, you can work in childcare, envelope stuffing, or just come and pray if you desire.
G.R.O.W. meets four times a month on a rotating schedule and you are welcome to come once a month or all four times. The choice is yours. A typical G.R.O.W. evening starts at 6:30 p.m. when you arrive and find a partner. After assignments have been made, we have prayer and proceed to our assigned tasks. We ask that the teams are back at 8:15 for Report Time. This is when we briefly share what we accomplished that evening with the others in attendance. Most people are on their way back home by 8:30.
Some common questions:
Where do the visit assignments come from on G.R.O.W. nights? As of today we have about 400 prospects in our system that have come from a variety of sources including: people that have visited FBCSC, New Home Owners, Friends, Neighbors, etc.
What if I don't want to visit? We have a letter writing table that most people start at and then work from there.
Am I going to have to go out by myself and visit? NO! Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs! We follow His model! If you are new to the program, we will match you with someone experienced to work with until you are comfortable with the process.
I am on the G Team, but didn't make it. Can I come to another night? Yes, and bring a friend if you want!
Will I get a different partner each time? That is up to you. Many people team up with someone and go out on the same night of each month. We also have a number of Husband and wife teams.
What if I want to visit people or prospects in my Sunday School class on G.R.O.W. night? That's Ok, we just ask that you let us know when you arrive and that you are open to the possibility that the Captain may have a Priorty Visit for you to make instead.
What is a Priority Visit? This is someone that has visited our church, is ill, or has a unique situation. Generally, these are determined by a member of the Pastorial Staff working with the Outreach Director.
How many visits will I be asked to make per evening? An average of 3. We try to get you into as small a geographic area as possible so that you maximize the use of your time and minimize the use of your gas.
Is there training required? No, however, once per quarter we will offer training and orientation for those desiring it. You can always contact the Team Captain or Outreach Director if you are unsure of how to do something.
